Finding The Right Sciatica Treatment For You

When you are diagnosed with sciatica, it is hard to give you a general sciatica treatment. This is mainly because the duration and types of Sciatica Pain are different from person to person. There is no one best sciatica treatment that works for everyone.

The first and most traditional sciatica treatment is resting for 2 to 3 weeks, especially when there is sharp pain. In order to calm down the pain, try to rest by lying down on a firm mattress or on the floor. You should only get up when you have to eat or need to go to the toilet. Even when the pain starts to subside, you should not lift anything, bend your back, or sit with bad posture. Sitting down on a soft chair for an extensive period of time should also be avoided. If this rest does not lessen the pain after 2-3 days, you should go visit your doctor. However, there is a debate going on about treatment through resting. Many doctors now claim that an active lifestyle is better for treatment than lying down on a bed for long periods of time.

When you visit your doctor, he/she will prescribe the right medicines or injections after a diagnosis. The medication may help in reducing the pain and the infC'elp in reducing the pain and the infC'ation of the nerves. Also, doctors may advise surgery, injection, or traction in replace of, or in addition to the medication. Surgery mainly removes the firm compression of the discs on the nerve. Unfortunately, all of these treatments don't guarantee long-term relief.

Exercises are proven to be a very helpful method of sciatica treatment for preventing and reducing the symptoms. Doctors will recommend you the type of exercise that is right for you. Exercises recommended the most are swimming and walking.
