Sciatica Home > Injections For Sciatica Different Types of Injections For SciaticaThere are several medicines and injections for sciatica given to patients to deal with the pain. They help to reduce pain and other serious symptoms. People with mild pain and discomfort don't usually require special injections because those symptoms are likely to subside on their own. However, people with very serious pain are treated with prescribed medicines or injections. Injections for sciatica are usually epidural, which means they are applied directly into the area between vertebrate and spinal outer membrane. Here is a list of a few types of injections that are being widely used. Corticosteroids: They are applied directly into the painful area for a temporary reduction of pain. They reduce pain by decreasing the inflammation of the sciatic nerves. Hyper-tonic saline: This injection is also for short-term use to alleviate pain. One study showed that the effect lasted longer than stereo type drugs. Botulinum: This toxin is still under investigation. More than half the patients tested reported improvements after very small amounts of this bacterial toxin, but it doesn't seem to be providing any long-term benefits. Unfortunately, no injection or medication has been proven to provide any extensive relief. And be sure to check out our pages about What Is Sciatica Injections For Sciatica
